Ironically, the 45 degree V-twins of Harley were one of the most unstables V-twin engines (and that's why exciting to many arround because Harley promoted this as it's attitude signature!!!) uptill as late as 2000-2002. In the year 2001 Harley was forced to join hands with Porche and designed the revolutionary VR-1000 series or the V-Rod engine which finally changed the picture for Harley!!!
Funny what's every other guy's dream had to struggle for so long!!
it was pretty much the single set point/dual fire ignition system which was the problem with the twins. it never impacted overall ride feel but was unstable reliability wise and the single set points added a serious sound to the engine note which added to the attitude :).....and well.....struggle is life actually...for example..getting out of the bed in morning is a struggle :)
